562744 2007-06-26 09:35:00 I put 91 petrol in my tank once by mistake one day... big mistake- engine did not sound normal, very slow to respond to change in throttle, and when it did, basically shot the car forward.

Ran that tank to near empty, then filled up with 96. Never again.

562745 2007-06-26 12:20:00 Never mind... I have answered my own question by... reading the manual!!! :illogical many of you may ask... what is a manual? well it is a book detailing how to/specs/etc on a particular item... in this car my car manual :p

You know it is amazing what you can find in a manual :D

I am getting low on fuel... I might chuck in a tank of 95 and see what happens

Your name suggests that is appropriate action.

562746 2007-06-26 16:32:00 I suspect that you guys are getting hosed-down with gasoline that we wouldn't use to start a barbecue if the numbers all crunch the same that is .

It's a law here that with the exception of certain "specialized-use" or high performance engines in vehicles that ALL engines be designed to run on our lowest grade or "regular" fuel . . that being 87 Res/Ron .

The law is so strict that if a station runs out of 87, and they have lots of higher grade, they have to close the place until they get a dump of 87 .

I concede the point that a turbo'd engine MIGHT need a little higher octane . . but it isn't always the case here .

What's the boost value?
Is the waste gate frozen?
Is the BARO sensor working?
Ditto the BMAP?
Ditto the MAF?
Ditto the ESC?
Do you use el-cheapo lube oils creating excessive carbon and upper cylinder build-ups? (read: Non-vegetable-based)
Are you REALLY getting full octane as stated?

Something stinks in NZ . . and youse guys are buying it all . . . .

562748 2007-06-26 21:46:00 Another thing that no one has mentioned is that the noozles on the pumps are of differant size diameters. The 95 one being bigger than the 91. On my car which uses 91 I can't put 95 into it as the bigger noozle won't fit into the filler pipe.

You must be using very old pumps. That used to be the difference between leaded and unleaded.

Ah yes but we all know America fights dirty wars to keep their oil supplies flowing.

You got some severe problems . . don't you ever get tired of that rag?

I'm not helping here to be your personal punching bag . . if you want to change the world . . go for it . . but I didn't bring this to your table as a cue to bash other people .

562752 2007-06-27 04:33:00 Whatever happened to 96 octane petrol?
It used to be the norm but now they have all gone to 95.
We can't get BP Ultimate (98 octane) in Whangarei :(
My Subaru loves the stuff :D

If this was an intentional way to make people put the right grade in the right car, it would be round the wrong way. You could put 91 in a car that needed 95, but you couldn't put 95 in a car that would run on 91...
