750428 2009-02-23 08:59:00 How much different is then Mandriva from PCLOS?
Thanks

Very little - the most obvious is probably the package manager - but both work well.

Right at the moment you are probably better off with Mandriva since PCLOS2009 has not quite been released - you can upgrade to it from PCLOS2007 but I don't think you can download it yet.

750429 2009-02-23 09:43:00 I have used PCLOS 2007 before and was very happy with it and the only reason I could not go with it is that my design soft was and still is windows based. notechyet (4479)

750431 2009-02-25 05:14:00 1. KDE 4. Make sure you get at least 4.2.0, all versions of KDE 4 prior to this were extremely buggy and missing a lot of functionality.

2. Gnome or XFCE.

3. Anything that uses apt (which means most debian systems). Yum (fedora, redhat etc) works, but it's a bit painful. Don't know enough about Yast to comment on it.

Try gOS (www.thinkgos.com). Its Ubuntu with a MacOS-like makeover. Gnome interface, Apt for packages, easy updates, google gadgets, wine built in so you can run compatible win progs. If I can use it, anyone can. Even SurferJoe.

Hay thanks Erayd for the info. and help.

What Linux Distro do you reckon that has KDE 4 v.4. 2. 0 and has apt, do you think would be good for people who have only used M$ XP PRO ie.people new to Linux would be a good distro?

And can you use Gnome or XFCE with KDE together or can you only use KDE or Gnome or XFCE by themselfs?

Cheers:)

ps.checking out KDE 4. 2. 0,looks real nice and cool!!!:D:thumbs:

Both PCLOS's Synaptic and Mandriva's RPMDrake package update managers work really well in my experience.

Unfortunately none - there are packages for kubuntu, but I have heard many reports that they are very badly integrated. At this point you're better off choosing something else, hopefully based on something other than purely eyecandy.

ps.checking out KDE 4.2.0,looks real nice and cool!!!:D:thumbs:You can have them all installed concurrently, but can only run one of them at a time.
