750218 2009-02-22 08:54:00 Looks like the hard drive was at fault. Installing OK now so far. I tested the drive with Seatools and checkdisk with no errors. I really thought it was the motherboard!

I've got DBAN but still don't see it worth the effort. When I look on Trade Me $6 - 8 just isn't worth it.

750219 2009-02-22 09:05:00 I've had errors installing XP OS a quite a few times.
At least once it turned out to be a faulty ram stick.
At least once was a bad HDD.
One time a workaround was to strip out all PCI cards etc. Leave only 1 stick ram, video card if not onboard, CD and HDD. The bare essential approach.

750220 2009-02-22 09:12:00 I may not have stated in other posts but I tried another stick of ram and had only the basics plugged in. All go now though :) berryb (99)
750221 2009-02-22 09:17:00 Sounds a lot like the HDD then - sometimes its a process of Elimination then you generally work out whats at fault.

If you want borrow the big hammer from my Sig
