562783 2007-06-25 19:44:00 From what I have read you do notice some difference in quality between codecs and rip bit rates. Ideally the video capable iPod is actually design as a device to enable video to be portable and to be displayed on a bigger screen rather than solly on the iPod especially considering what happens to image files when you try to enlarge them - hence the reason for the on going development of the h.264 codec.
It also helps to have access to a large selection of down loadable video content from the iTunes store - something that is really only available in the US so far. NOTE the "From what I have read" you have obviously not seen this in person and I can tell you yes there is a difference in bit rates, but between codecs of the same quality level there is very little... and in case you didn't know DivX and Xvid are probably the most common codecs out there... but the iPods don't support them :groan:

562787 2007-06-25 22:36:00 It is interesting to see how many people "think" that stuff from Apple is more expensive overall and gives less value for money compared to the opposition simply because it is Apple. (computers not withstanding) Generally a competitors MP3 player will get a price reduction (sale special) in order to increase its sales (with a corresponding reduction in profit margin) when they need to boost revenue to make up for continually declining sales, despite the fact that the materials and manufacture still costed them the same amount or more prior to the device going on sale. winmacguy (3367)

Actually the video Ipod I have was cheaper than the 40 GB Ipod.

No, Thats not interesting.

But it is a fact that in any catagory the Apple product tends to be the most expensive, to lack features, and to have severe design flaws. The ipod battery drama is one trhat comes to mind.

If someone intent on an MP3 player looks any futher then the "biggest seller" they will find a huge range of better built, better designed, featured packed devices for a better price.

Hard I know, But you will just have to live with it.

Oh, the iPod range is also infected with gayness.
