562110 2007-07-04 05:09:00 Oracle will probably contain more NZers, than the next Team NZ team if it happens. I don't have a problem with the government giving $10 million to Team NZ plus the extra $30 million later on, that they have implied they will provide, however there are also other opportunities in NZ. I think Barker maybe poached by another team.

Team NZ unfortionately made too many mistakes. Anyone know why TNZ didn't do the penalty turn right on the line, instead of 50 metres back from the line. If they had, they would have won, as they wouldn't have had to build up the momentium to go that 50m distance after the penalty turn.
They also made the mistake of taking the left instead of the right on the upwind legs, which they have made the same mistake in the last 3 races. In sailing 'right', is usaully always 'right, even when it is wrong.

I think they should go back to smaller faster boats, which should bring the cost down, and make the races more exciting.

Righto,will let them know asap.

I think they know already, as all of those things have been discussed in the media.

That is all good except that a boat with a longer water line is faster than a shorter boat.
I thought all the close races were very exciting (nail bitting)

The problem with the current boats is that they are very heavy and big. They are also very slow downwind, but quite quick upwind. Smaller boats can be quicker as they are lighter, less surface area in the water. A dual hulled yacht should easily be able to beat a americas cup class boat around the track..

This americas cup was exciting, but the LV cup wasn't so much in many of the races. The previous 4 AC's to this one also haven't been partically exciting, as they have all been very one sided.

My thoughts exactly. You would of thought they would of learnt from there mistakes. In other races when Alinghi went to the right they beat TNZ except in one race. It was common knowledge over there that the wind generally swung more right as the day wore on.

Yes they should of done the pen on the line.

I have heard a rumour about a differant class of boat for the next AC.

Trevor :)

I think it is scary that Alinghi can basically make up all the rules. They could have everyone sailing in Cat's for the next one.

562116 2007-07-04 12:53:00 Our boys rock. Proud to be a Kiwi right now. If any group of people deserve a mass haka by every NZer in Valencia right now, its Dean and the boys.
Way to go fellas, much respect.x 2
