2009-02-22 05:15:00 | Older PC. Have formatted the drive and started to install XP, once it does it's first reboot during the install get "error loading operating system". Have done this process a couple of times with same result. Checked drive with Seatools and reported OK. Have changed the Ram reset bios etc. Have tried another PSU as well. I think the motherboard or CPU faulty. Ideas??

2009-02-22 05:37:00 | Good point! Using a slipstreamed XP Pro SP2 disk that I use often. Trying an Original XP Home one now. If it works I'll fine another Pro cd here. It is a PC I worked on a while back and just never got back onto it. Cleaning the office day and thought I'd have another go at it before I bin it! Will let you know how it goes.

2009-02-22 05:38:00 | Well I should have waited 30secs before I posted last. Nope XP Home CD does same error. Might be a bin Job! | berryb (99) | |
2009-02-22 05:47:00 | I wouldn't quite so fast - try a different optical Drive, and /or a spare HDD if you have one - no point in throwing out what may be perfectly good Hardware for the sake of a cheap component. Had a similar thing happen quite a while ago - took a bit of process of elimation to find the problem - it was a dead spot on the HDD, that every time failed to load, mine would get to loading the drivers then --- rasppppp :yuck: - every thing pointed to board failure - but changed the drive for an old one I had about (and I have many laying about) :D and the OS loaded fine. That drive flew quite nice across the workshop into the Bin - should have played basket Ball.

2009-02-22 06:01:00 | Just tried another optical drive with no luck. Have plenty of old drives around so will try another. As I said before, cleaning out office - will get my son to have some fun with a big hammer on about 10 8.4Gb harddrives.

2009-02-22 06:14:00 | You might be right about the harddrive. just put in another that had XP on it and it started to load but rebooted once the OS found hardware it didn't know. Formatting and installing now. Will see how it goes. Cheers

2009-02-22 06:17:00 | Lol you could sell them for about 7-10 dollars each on trademe;) Nah not worth my time doing a secure wipe as I couldn't sell them as I don't know whats on them. Hammer is more fun!! I must have a look though Trade Me to see what drives are going for. I think one of the ones in the bag for the hammer was a 20gb.
