| 561830 | 2007-06-23 04:03:00 | In the inquiry after the first shuttle exploded, Richard Feynmann was scathing about NASA's "safety statistics". They said that human flights "by definition" had a very low failure rate (like 1 in 10^5they or more). He worked out in a statistical analysis that the actual figure was more like 1 in 300. By definition, Microsoft software is secure. Bill told the boys to write secure code. Then the optimisers took out the slow secure routines and put back the faster code. Then the focus groups told them that users don't like security if it slows them down. So set all the defaults to be "easy to use". |

Just because the story is published? Maybe you can not use a spell checker as you do not run an application under the operating system you choose. "sooo secure" :2cents: |

| 561833 | 2007-06-23 04:16:00 | Vista may be the most secure. But I know which one I'd rather be using when the next ILoveYou or MyDoom hits (i.e. the next big virus outbreak) :D In the end, its only MS propaganda. And because MS said it, it MUST be true. MS wouldn't lie to its own customers now, would it? "Lets jiggle some figures, set our customers hearts at ease, make the others look worse". Microsoft has always been known as a brilliant marketer, that hasn't changed |

| 561837 | 2007-06-23 05:09:00 | Because they get sued every time they try to build this sort of thing into their OS. I would have thought that a properly designed OS should be secure out of the box without for 3rd party tools to do what should have been done properly in the first place. It is interesting how they can put a bit of PR spin on the statistics to appear in their favour. |
