Also, for the record, it's means it is. I wasn't disputing the fact that Microsoft has more market share or has sold more or anything else, my comment was that Apple did very little in the way of actual big budget marketing for the iPhone. 99% of the huge amount of iPhone hype was generated online by bloggers and people who wanted to know about the iPhone and people who wrote articles about it. Apple only served to feed the hype to their advantage. This is known as free publicity which is something that Microsoft could only dream of getting. Over the weekend, unless you had been living under a rock or were not interested in technology there is a very good chance that you would have heard or read something about the iPhone. Microsoft on the other hand was struggling with it's $500 million US marketing budget to get anyone to even care about Vista which will eventually run on 80% of the worlds PCs in about 10 years time. It is called perfecting the art of product marketing. Success is determined by the $$$ returned by the customer in relation to the $$ spent on the marketing campaign by the company. Apple sold around 500,000 iPhones (at a profit) over the weekend for a paltry sum in marketing expenses. |

And it can't really sell that product in Japan, but the rest of the world loves Xbox 360. iphone makes its way on the market easily because it is Apple just like ipod if ipod havn't succeeded iphone is a rubbish. |

True, there was a lot of pre sales hype surrounding the re designed XBox (MS copying Apple there again) except that every XBox being is still being sold at a loss to Microsoft in order to buy market share. Every iPhone is being sold at a profit in an equally competitive mobile phone market. Fortunately for Apple they built a pretty good product before they released it- followed by a series of improvements/refinements with each new model. I think MS learned from that with the Xbox- keep it simple and focus on what you want to do then gradually ad features. |

| 564039 | 2007-07-03 09:20:00 | Why is it that whenever MS does well or is successful, it is always copying Apple but if it screws up, then its alone? Simple, Apple innovates and MS copys except for MS partnering up back in the early 90's to release Windows while Apple kept the Mac OS to itself which it still does. Steve Jobs cares about hardware and software design even though he doesn't actually write or design anything himself. Apple designed the iPod/iTunes which had a roaring success so MS copied the vertical integration of hardware software design concept with the 2nd? Xbox which has sold very well (at a continued loss) MS then copied (badly) the iPod/iTunes idea under Robbie Bach to produce the Zune music player/Music store which have both bombed due to a failed marketing promo and many failing features on the Zune. MS will no doubt copy Apple again with some form of yet to be release Zune Phone in due course. Apple has learned to partner up to achieve greater market penetration (Apple+Google+Youtube+iPod/iPhone etc) |
