| 751343 | 2009-04-04 22:14:00 | Hi guys SWMBO's lappie lost her HD two weeks ago and has been returned. Could not connect to wireless (again), but this time it was not the Winsock. It won't allocate IP's. IPconfig in the cmd function showed no IP's. IPconfig /release cleared all IP's, but IP /renew showed the following : "No operating can be performed on LAN while it has its media disconnected. An error occured while renewing interface wireless network connection unable to connect to your DHCP server. Request timed out" What now? sarel |

| 751346 | 2009-04-05 08:29:00 | Is the IP 0.0.0.0? If so, try these two commands: Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot. If that doesn't work, have a look at this list: Diagnosis: 1. DHCP Service not running. 2. Duplicate IP address on the network. 3. Bad NIC card drivers. 4. Defective NIC hardware. Resolution: 1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic. 2. Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, restart (power cycle) the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices. 3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers. 4. Replace the Network Interface Card. Blam |

| 751348 | 2009-04-06 20:23:00 | A bit of feedback on this issue Last night the school techie turned up at the house to "fix the problem". Did everything I did but could not get the lappie to acquire an IP. B*ggered around for about an hour. Nothing happened. Rebooted laptop a few times, rebooted modem twice - nothing happened. And then, all of a sudden, without doing anything, the wireless connection was back (that is after I gave the lappie a thump when he attended to ablutions because the "NIC is working OK and the school system runs through the same NIC") I just wondered what happened - or is it one of those things we will never know. sarel |

| 751349 | 2009-04-06 22:02:00 | .....and right now SWMBO can't get onto the school system. She's livid and that ain't a pretty sight. Thin lips like a mailbox letter opening, eyes throwing massive bolts of lightning, etc. I'm just glad it wasn't me. LOL sarel |
