564374 2007-06-30 02:30:00 At 175,000 kM's I would be running away fast.

The accord is a good car, but do not consider owning one over 120,000 kMs unless you are super rich. At 175,000 kMs you have to consider it a disposable item, so why would you ever want to spend money on a repaint?

I sold my '96 Accord (had it from new) at 98,000 kMs. Beautifully engineered but horrendous when they go wrong.

If you go to K-mart you can buy the exact Honda paint in aerosol cans. Redid my rear bumper, looked as good as new.

564375 2007-06-30 03:16:00 Eventually I will be able to buy cars with low k's.

Until then, I have to buy what I can afford. This car has 43000 less kms than my current car, which surely must be an improvement?

564376 2007-06-30 05:07:00 I understand that, but I cannot understand why would you then spend a few hundred on painting the roof?

If you can only afford a high kM car, try to avoid those that will require you to abandon it if (when) it breaks though. Do you really need something that large, they do tend to drink gas with the 2.2 motor. handling is a bit like steering a boat compared to later cars.

For a mere fraction of the cost of the panelbeater, the aerosol K-Mart option would work if you can use a paint can reasonably well. The rubber seal panel joints make a perfect delineation from the original paint if there are minute differences.

564377 2007-06-30 05:15:00 I bought my Nissan for $1000.
It did well for 4 years then was going to need all its hoses replaced.
I sold it for $600 and bought a Toyota for $1000.

Broke that and bought another for $1500.

Its done 193000KM. Its motor is perfectly fine.

If it needed something expensive I'd throw it anway and buy another.

Cars depreciate like crazy anyway, so why spend huge money on them?

I get my moneys worth.

564378 2007-06-30 05:38:00 I would be happy with a high kM Toyota as well, in preference to the Honda. godfather (25)
564379 2007-06-30 06:29:00 corolla, you can't beat them. For 2grand you will get a mid 90's. cheap to run. And the best thing is if your slack with maintainace it won't bite you later on. touch wood, pretty much bullet proof. Go ask your local machanic plod (107)

I guess I've just been put off them by my parents' one. That thing costs its value in repairs twice a year. It's absolutely ridiculous. Sure, the maintanence has been terrible, but I just never liked Corollas much after that.

Still, AMI refuse to insure me for it which might be a problem...... State quoted me $17.92 a month, but I hear they suck.

Godfather, I'm spending the money on getting it up to scratch because that's cheaper than buying a perfect one with the same age and k's. My car is about to start costing me a lot of money I suspect, and I want to get something with less k's and in better condition.

calling yourself an idiot is a bit harsh. A sucker for punishment would be a better term.
A question to ask yourself, why is your mate getting rid of the car?
