563993 2007-06-28 21:55:00 Apple know their market segment. The I-diots will buy anything; performance, value, and features are still irrelevant. Dubious styling and apple-ness are the only requisites. R2x1 (4628)

563998 2007-06-29 08:02:00 Why $2000+? I mean even if you got the US$600 one, it would only cost around NZ$779 using the exchange rate of 0.77c.

OK sure, that phone wouldnt work here but in the near future when unlocked phones and 3G versions arrive, you could easily import one here. My current phone is around NZ$1300 which technically makes it more expensive than the iPhone but people still buy it.

$2000 refers to the cost of the 2 year contract . The rates of the contract are actually very competitive especially when compared to what we pay .

564000 2007-06-29 10:41:00 Indeed, a lot of people in the US are actually quite happy with the cost of the plan. Its just the cost of the hardware annoys them considering that sometimes, after rebates they actually get money for buying a phone on contract. I mean a Blackjack for $75!!! beeswax34 (63)
564001 2007-06-29 10:50:00 A number of the other phone manufacturers are starting to look at redesigning their phones now that the iPhone is about to hit the streets in 12 hours time.
How much the price barrier affects people's decisions if at all will show when people start buying it. It certainly has the ease of use GUI and plenty of great features with more on the way.

564002 2007-06-29 22:03:00 It would seem that there are a few notable tech visionaries lining up to get an iPhone with Woz (Steve Wozniak aka the other Steve.) being one of the as well as a guy called Bill Atkinson. He was Apple’s first software developer. He wrote Mac Paint. Hypercard. Did the windowing system. And much more. Most historians believe he’s one of the top software developers Silicon Valley has ever seen. And that’s no hype.
