563760 2007-06-29 09:22:00 The problem is that the importers look at making their greatest possible margin, coupled with volume sales - This virtually means that quality is the deliberately forgotten factor. A friend of mine in the UK was importing Socket Sets from China and retailing them for 2 UK pounds, I said they would have to be crap at that price - answer - they are, but most people don't come back and complain - if they do I give a replacement and they can keep the old as well - I am making so much money out of them, a few free replacements are no problem.
The problem is as a society we have become so accustomed to looking for the cheapest product that we just shrug off poor quality.

563761 2007-06-29 11:58:00 Heh, reminds me of my local knick knack $2 shop. It is a mess, stuff everywhere. But I love it!

Nothing like $14 egg strainer at Briscoes for $4 there, DLine pie tins for $2 each, 6 rolls of packing tape for $10.
Cheap imitation Gillette Shaver knock offs that are surprisingly good for $2 and have 5 refills and last around two weeks each.

100 pack cable ties for a few dollars
Rubber Mallets for $2

5M tape measures for a buck or so...

And the list goes on.

4-6 cup teapot for $4 in three colours

Cheaper does not always mean crappier. But it's like a box of choccies. Don't know what your gonna get.
