| 563657 | 2007-07-07 01:16:00 | I The word "selection" leaves a lot to the imagination . If it truly is a selection . . then what are the selections? The premise that there are selections then makes the evolution factor gigantic by quantum numbers . Imagine parallel evolution and then selecting out from all the chances the best or most profitable ones? By your statement, there had to be vast numbers of mistakes and bad evolution too . If the "evolved" part is dysfunctional or not what is needed, then how any survivors will exist from the supposed litter of offspring (that will have to carry around an extra foot or head or whatever silly image I can create here) with that defect opens the door for even higher accidental chances . . but this time they had to be good and right and correct to pass on to progeny . Oh come on Joe, you can think straighter than that . Don't get confused by the word "selection" If it truly is a selection . . then what are the selections? Should be "If it truly is a selection . . then what are the choices?" ie . Take the Giraffe, it has a long neck, why? . Well the Giraffes with the longest necks (and as we all know, even amongst people living today, some have longer necks than others) could reach highest in the trees for their food . So when their was a shortage the Giraffes with the longest necks would have stronger offspring and so pass that long neck gene onto more descendants than the shorter neck gene . It is not a case of things with two heads or three toes, it is a matter of "survival of the fittest" or "Natural selection" . That maybe why people of the middle east have big noses, the air is dryer and a larger nose moistens the air so as not to dessicate the lungs . ;) This does not preclude the existence of a God but if there were such a thing as "Intelligent design" then that is the way is works . Science can show us how and why of life but it could never tell us the meaning . If there is one and that's the whole point . Those that seek a meaning to life will always look to, or for, a God . |
