564073 2007-07-05 07:24:00 I am just starting to see why winmacguy has a fairly large post count. I wonder if he realises that he is groundbait for a litle bit of piss taking??

C'mon winmacguy, give us a breakdown of the % of i-mac/pod/phone/burgers stuff defending posts, as opposed to other stuff.

Ken

Probably a lot.

564074 2007-07-05 07:32:00 Well after all of this, someone has already hacked it, so u dont need Itunes.

(thats if u dont want to use the phone), but WI-FI and the Ipod will still work.

And it'll bypass activating, without having to use Itunes.

564075 2007-07-05 07:37:00 Obviously, the functions, design, value for money, and usefulness of this device are totally irrelevant .

The things sell . Marketing works . People waited all night in lines to be early purchasers . (The same thing has happened for some software releases) . "Noone ever went broke underestimating . . . " .

Opinions here (for or against) won't affect the sales . So why argue about it?

There is certainly a lot of interest in the successful hacking of the iPhone at this stage. No doubt we will hear more about it towards the end of the week. I believe it has more to do with using the iPhone without being tied to AT&T.

564078 2007-07-06 00:02:00 who said this was a new revolutionary product? it's got less features/stuff than it's competition (by price bracket)

as far as i can see, all it does new is bear the apple brand

For a product to be revolutionary it doesn't necessarily need to have more features than competing products, a completely new approach to an existing concept can be revolutionary

In saying that, the iPhone does have quite a few features other phones don't have, such as multi-touch input (an interface that would be considered easier to use by most people), iTunes integration (potentially a minus of you don't like iTunes), a fully featured web browser (including tabs), music functionality (normally somewhat of a pain to use on most other phones) and a much higher resolution display than most competitors. At the same time it lacks 3G, a GPS, video recording and auto focus on its only just satisfactory camera (from what I have seen image quality is similar to a high end phone back in 2005, nothing compared with this year's top end models).

It is hard to really decide on how revolutionary it is until you have used one yourself, and it also depends on what functions you are looking for in a phone. Not having tactile feedback may be an issue for some people, but at the same time the sacrifice may be worth the extra screen space or not having to have a slide out keyboard tacked on the back.

Virtually all the Apple stores in the US are sold out which means that Apple has moved around 1 million units since 6pm last Friday night. AT&T has processed over 1 million iPhone activations in the same time frame. The Sydney Morning herald has been interviewing a few Aussies who live in the US that have bought iPhones.
