| 751219 | 2009-02-25 08:15:00 | Hey just after some advice Mate wants to upgrade his pc, budget of $800 He has a 8800gts already and wants... cpu (core2) mobo ram (4gig) hard drive (think il get a 500) psu Has a nice case already too So question is whats the best value for money here? Would prefer local to chch if quoting from stores. Wont be overclocking so doesnt need to be top of the line Cheers, sam |

Enermax,Corsair are brands that I have used and have been good for me.:) Get a modular psu if you have a case with a window or you are doing a Matx build for a Home Theater set up in a small case etc. as it makes for a easier and cleaner build and you dont end up with a mess of cables blocking airflow as well.:thumbs: |

For that budget he might even be able to get a Q6600 or a Q8200, depends if he runs many multi threaded apps or not. For the RAM-If he's not going to do anything intensive or gaming/oc'ing etc then he can just get some normal Transcend stuff, or if his budget allows, get some corsaid, gskill or OCZ RAM. HDD=Seagate or a WD, Seagates having a few problems lately as you may know, so just go for a WD to save the hassles. This may also be of interest:www.tomshardware.com PSU=Important part of the PC, go for a reliable brand. Antec, Corsair, Silverstone I've heard good stuff about, a 550w or a 600w would be sufficient. 650w or a 700w would leave more room for upgrades at a later stage. Look on price spy for the best prices, I think Dragon PC is in Chch and is pretty good. Blam |

| 751226 | 2009-02-25 19:24:00 | maybe consider an intel motherboard as well, the cheaper models have absolutely no options to mess with any voltage or clock settings so can not be used to overclock which is very good or very bad depending on your pesrspective. I have also found them to be rock sold in terms of stability. |
