| 750948 | 2009-02-24 07:21:00 | Hi folks. Ever since I've changed the fans in P182 case to much quieter ones, I can hear this weird electrical noise that is more prevalent depending on the orientation you are in to the case. For example, if I'm right in front of the PC I can hardly hear it, but if I turned 45 degrees the noise is audible. I think it's been there ever since I had my Antec 1200 case, though I assume the noise of louder fans drowned the weird noise somewhat. The noise is quite similar to the electrical noise power lines make (step outside and listen to them) but at a higher frequency, and of course, much less audible. It is not the fans - I've stopped them one by one. Not rattling of any cables or headers either. Is it coming from an electrical component, like a capacitor or the like? Is it a warning sign? Thanks in advance. |

Is it coming from an electrical component, like a capacitor or the like? Could be a capacitor, more likely one of the choke coils (copper wire wrapped around a ferrite ring). Often you'll see gobs of hot melt glue on components prone to this to damp down the noise. |

| 750950 | 2009-02-24 08:40:00 | Thanks Paul. If that's the case then I'm thinking it's down to the motherboard or PSU, neither of which I am intending to upgrade any time soon. Can this noise eventually subside by itself? Or will I have to endure this noise till I upgrade? | qazwsxokmijn (102) | ||

| 750952 | 2009-02-24 09:39:00 | AHA!!! Found the culprit!!! Well, culpritS, to be exact, as there are TWO of them! My 'quiet' 1100rpm Raidmax fans are ones making the noise!! I crossed them out because when I tested the fans, I did them one by one so when I stopped one the other was making the same noise, thus leading me to conclude that it's not the fans. Well, that was dumb of me. :( Have to buy new fans now.... |
