752579 2009-03-01 20:56:00 Hi folks

My youngest has moved to the wilds of Western Australia. She wants us to use Skype, which is fine with me. However, I have only used it with a headset, whereas she and her hubby talk to his family in Minorca and England using a web cam (and presumably a mic and the computer's speakers?).

Do any of you have any recommendations for a set up like this to use with Skype? Thanks for any suggestions.

752582 2009-03-02 02:13:00 You should know that webcams are very hungry on the computer's resources. If your PC is relatively low power it could struggle. Just another thing to consider..... the things they don't tell you when you buy. Tbird650 (6754)

Thanks Tbird650 (I was a Matchless man, myself!). Here is what I am running:
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
AMD Athlon 64, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3200+
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9
Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce4 Ultra, AMD Hammer
System Memory 1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (128 MB)
3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce 6200

Do you think I need more than 1Gb RAM?

Thats prob enough. You could throw in another 512mb/1gb stick though, you'd see a nice increase. Would be expensive though, since its using the old, DDR RAM technology
