| 752516 | 2009-03-01 08:56:00 | Sometimes SP3 installs come up with that error message if using an older key- you have two choices - call MS as mentioned above or use the original Install CD of XP and then upgrade to SP3 Via windows updates. | wainuitech (129) | ||
| 752517 | 2009-03-01 09:08:00 | What number should I call? Is it too late to phone them now? | bk T (215) | ||
| 752518 | 2009-03-01 09:20:00 | They are open 24 /7 Microsoft = 0800 676 334 But you will need to try and activate the PC via telephone method , there will be a 42 digit number you punch in Via the phone - follow the prompts - then finally you get to speak to a real person. Tell them whats happened, then will ask a couple of questions - is the OS on any other PC etc - they will then give you a new 42 digits to type in and bingo - all go. ( or should be) |

My problem now is, I can't even complete the installation process - stuck at the Product Key. Just rang them and was told to phone them tomorrow as their office hrs are from 9 - 5, Mon to Friday. PH: 0800 800 004 BTW, is there a way to remove SP3 from the slipstreamed CD? |

| 752520 | 2009-03-01 09:58:00 | OK you have to have got to the point of activating and failing for the phone support I mentioned other wise you wont get the 42 digits you need to put in via the phone. Just tried the MS number 0800 676 334 at the Real time, Not forum time of 10.48pm - went straight through - you would have to select option 2 - activate XP, Vista etc. THEN punch in via the phone the 42 Digits as mentioned previously. Once SP3 is slipstreamed in - its there - you will more than likely need to use the original CD to install. As Far as I know, only if its installed as a update in windows can you remove it. |

Problem is, this laptop doesn't come with any recovery CD, and unfortunately the recovery partition has been wiped off! The CD I have now belongs to a friend of mine. Looks like I got no choice but to wait until tomorrow. |

| 752522 | 2009-03-01 12:23:00 | Aaaah, see thats it right there! The CD you have belongs to a friend. There's many different versions of XP Home or XP Pro, such as: XP Home OEM XP Home Retail XP Home VLK (Enterprise) XP Home Dell OEM XP Home IBM OEM XP Pro OEM XP Pro Retail XP Pro VLK (Enterprise) .... You get my point Just because yours says "XP Home" and your friends says "XP Home" doesnt mean the two are specifically compatible. You could be trying to enter an XP Home Retail CD key into an XP Home OEM CD which wont work. Depending on if this is true or not, it could be that no amount of trying to activate will solve the issue, and you may need to re-request the correct media from your PC Manufacturer or Microsoft, or potentially see if Microsoft will give you a new Product Key (Doubtful). Good luck ;) Chill. |
