752156 2009-02-28 12:45:00 I've just replaced one of the two PCs on my home network (which is set up as Internet > Modem/router > ethernet hub > 2 PCs to that hub) and want it to talk to the other one, basically. But the thing is, no matter what I try with the Network Wizard, the new one doesn't seem to want to show up. It can't even see ITSELF in it's own 'View workgroup computers'!

Do I have to run the network setup wizard again on the existing computer as well? (I'd tried that to no avail, and have just used system restore to put the existing computer back to what it was before I mucked with it trying to get it talking to the new one). Also, for the aforementioned configuration, which of the options provided by the wizard should I select? And is there a way to tell which of the wizard's options I originally went with, to give me some sort of starting point if I go into the old (replaced) PC and have a look?

Btw both PCs have unique names and are under the same workgroup name. :help:

752157 2009-02-28 13:08:00 I wouldn't bother with the network wizard. All it seems to do is screw things up. Just enter the pcs ip details manually. As long as they are in the same workgroup and have unique ip addresses (eg 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2), they should see each other. Catweazle (2535)
752158 2009-02-28 20:10:00 Yup dont worry about the wizard

And share A folder (not the whole hdd), and enable printer and file sharing

Also if you have a firewall, configure it. So sharing works

752159 2009-02-28 20:16:00 as said earlier network wizard forget it. just make sure they are both in the same ip range ie 192.168.78.xxx and same workgroup then if you want to share resources make sure file and print sharing is enalbed.

If you are unsure about pc not being able to talk to each other ping each in turn

752160 2009-02-28 22:32:00 What firewall do you use? Greven (91)
752161 2009-02-28 23:41:00 I agree with the other posters here, check your firewall.
Easiest way to see if it is the fault, disable firewall and if the network works then enable firewall and configure to allow sharing
