752205 2009-02-28 11:22:00 Have been wrestling for 4 or 5 hours without success on my new build.
M4A78Pro
Phenom II 920
Corsair ram 4gb
Acbel 450w psu

Fans spin, hdd spins, Mobo led lit,

Tried:
stripped down to basics without hdd, ram, etc.
Added the 2 fans plugged to mobo.
Reseated CPU
a 400w psu
resetting bios, remove battery
battery tests@3V
change ram slots
replace ram with other brand, single stick
replaced speaker
tried 450w psu on another system

What have I missed? Suggestions please.

752206 2009-02-28 11:35:00 you using a graphics card? if not check it has power. usually they scream at you if it doesnt but on the off chance check it

also the psu seems like a bit of low wattage for what your using, depending on graphics of course

752207 2009-02-28 12:15:00 Check BIOS jumper is not on the "Clear" position, or it won't boot.

Nothing shorting out under the motherboard?

Does the current BIOS revision support your CPU?

Are you using the onboard graphics or a card?

752208 2009-02-28 12:56:00 Jumpers in default position for bios.

Mobo is currently on bench/cardboard.

My understanding was it's supposed to work right out of the box...
This page should tell all:
support.asus.com PRO&product=1&os=24
Printed on the board is rev. 1. 02G
Otherwise there's no display to check.

Using onboard graphics.

PSU is rated 510w max power & 450w output power:
www.acbel.com

Thanks. I'm no closer to solving this here. Going to try another bios reset. Here goes...

752209 2009-02-28 13:38:00 125watt CPU is pretty high..

PSU rating in watts mean nothing. What you need to look at is the current on each rail

According to yours, it's 18A on each 12v rail (and there's 2 of them). Now the CPU will be on one, and the other will be connected to something else

Not heard much about ACBel but they're supposed to be OK. BUT can you try it with something else like an Enermax?

Got the 12v AUX connector plugged in?

All CPU are supported past board rev 1.00G and yours is 1.02G so that's fine. But you will need BIOS v0217 or newer.

Does onboard graphics share system memory? Do you need a module plugged into a certain slot to allow it to find the memory? Some onboard graphics will only work with RAM plugged into slot 1 for example.

752210 2009-02-28 20:15:00 True, go to the ASUS site and see what BIOS is needed.

If you need a later BIOS, you'll have to go back to the shop, and ask them to put a lower spec CPU in, flash it, then put yours back in

CPU's are here (support.asus.com)

752211 2009-02-28 20:22:00 Memory, memory, memory

Had the same problem with several ASUS boards, seem they are very picky.
You have corsair RAM and that should be OK but check the Manual and then change the memory anyway.

752214 2009-02-28 21:03:00 Remove all the memory - fire up the board it should beep like crazy indicating no RAM.
If it doesn't and every thing else is OK the board may be DOA - had an Asus board a few weeks ago like that.
