751985 2009-02-28 03:42:00 I want to buy a new ATI Radeon HD 4850 (Dual Slot) to use instead of my current integrated graphics. On the website, it says that it requires a minimum of 450W, but my PSU is 420W. WIll it run OK in the long term? here are my specs:

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 @ 1.60GHz (no OC)
Palit ii-G31
2 x 2GB DDR2
1 SATA 160GB HDD
1 IDE DVD + RW Drive
1 PCI Wireless N Card

Please help! Thanks

751986 2009-02-28 03:49:00 What kind of PSU?

Some PSU's can actually handle more than its load, most of the the 12v over 3 rails ones can.

But, you should get a new PSU, just to be safe.

Not too expensive(I'd say around 125 bucks, maybe less when you minus the money u get when you sell your old PSU)

Also-your CPU might be a bottle neck when you get this 4850, as its a bit unbalanced. 4850 might be overkill, if you tell us what you'll be doing with it, we might be able to think of a cheaper, more suitable alternative GFX card

Corsair one here:www.pbtechnz.com

Note sure of quality of this, but good value:www.computerlounge.co.nz

751987 2009-02-28 04:01:00 Sorry. I forgot to mention that my PSU was a Maxtron 420R-12.
Will this work OK?

751989 2009-02-28 05:03:00 I highly recommend you get a newer CPU first, that thing will bottleneck the system a lot if you have a 4850 Netsukeninja (13296)
751990 2009-02-28 05:16:00 I wouldn't recommend it. At all. Get a Corsair 450W or another reputable brand.

If you'd like to stick with your CPU, I also recommend you overclock it.

No.

Get a decent PSU - Corsair, and I'd get more than 450w, you might not need more just yet but later is another thing.......
