751979 2009-02-28 02:05:00 Ok, I have asked how to departition a hard drive, but Gparted is a Gnome project, and it works with Linux. Now, I managed to get it all sorted out, but now I want to try Windows 7 on a smaller, new partition.

Does anyone have an idea as how to do this is Windows XP? I don't think you need computer info, but I will give you this: It is big enough, and can probably run any program.

Any working help will be appreciated.

751980 2009-02-28 02:28:00 Gparted can actually run as a live cd-its based on linux, but you don't need to have linux installed to use it.

Alternatively, you can use the inbuilt partitioner within windows to create a partition for W7. Run>Diskmgmt.msc

Or, you can use easeuse partition manager(free)

Partition needs to be at least 16gb in size, 20gb recommended.

Cheers

751981 2009-02-28 02:30:00 Quite simple really - Download EASEUS Partition Manager (http://www.partition-tool.com/) Alter/ resize make a new partition on your existing drive.

boot from the windows 7 DVD - when it asks where to install - select the new partition you just created - once finished it will dual boot with XP.

If you have XP Pro - you can make / alter partitions from admin tools, disk management - XP home you cant.

751983 2009-02-28 05:29:00 Thanks Blam - the download / Zip link on the page is not working - several in the comments say the same - so it's either expired or a problem on the site :crying wainuitech (129)
