| 751843 | 2009-02-27 22:03:00 | Hi, I have a 4 year old HP Pavillion running XP. It has recently started to freeze on the first screen when I power up, unless it has been turned off at the wall (and back on again) prior to the reboot. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks Nic |

One thing you can try - with the PC turned off completely, ( from the wall as well) turn it back on, keep tapping F8 , when the options appear, select Safe Mode - start the PC in safe mode. (it will look crappy and no audio etc) but thats OK. once started, click start/ restart - see if it will start normally. This is to see if its a software or hardware issue - if its damaged drivers it should start normally from safe mode >> normal mode. If not then there is a possible hardware problem. |
