751960 2009-02-27 21:08:00 Hi, just out of interest .

Are there any major differences between a Micro ATX and a Standard ATX motherboard?

The person that this is for only use for admin work so it is not an issue .

Hypothetically speaking, if he was going to play games, it has a PCIe slot, takes up to 4GB DDR2 RAM, has ATA and SATA RAID controllers and if he is not going to overclock .

751962 2009-02-28 00:12:00 I really like the size factor. It is so tidy inside. And if they don't have any cards installed, even tidier. 1x HDD, no floppy, no cd/dvd. Nomad (952)

Cheaper and tidier too

751964 2009-02-28 07:43:00 Matx motherboards are perfect for office type work etc,Home Theater/multimedia pc's and for lan gaming -with a added graphic card of course for gaming - no big bulky heavy pc case to carry yeah!!!:D:thumbs:

Use Sata Harddrives and Sata dvdrw's and a modular psu for a nice tidy set up as some Matx case's can be quite tight to fit everthing in and you want to have good airflow in the case as well so doing this will help out heaps.

751965 2009-02-28 08:11:00 If you want to use it for gaming just get a good cpu, good graphic card and 2 gig/4 gig of ram -you dont need to get expensive ram either if your not overclocking.:) memphis (2869)
751966 2009-02-28 12:01:00 Smaller boards sometimes use slower chipset variants and cheaper parts as they are suited for more budget-minded situations but not all small boards are bad quality.

Really the main difference is size. Provided the specifications are the same (Chipset etc) then there is no difference.

Just means you can get away with a smaller case
