2007-07-06 02:31:00 | I don't think any company likes a situation like this no mater how much money they have got. Unacceptable numbers of Xbox repairs cost Microsoft $1bn Microsoft says it would take a more than $1 billion ($NZ1.27 billion) charge to fix "an unacceptable number of repairs" to its Xbox 360 video game consoles and had missed shipment targets for the end of June. www.nzherald.co.nz

Fortunately Apple is a hardware company that also builds software- MS is a software company gradually learning about hardware. |

2007-07-06 03:29:00 | There will always be enough suckers buying these latest and greatest things that MS and Apple (or any other producer for that matter) will always benefit in the end. As long as these companies spend a lot on their marketing, that is. Marketing will always drown out the woeful cries of the suckers with broken Xbox, PS3, iWhatever...

2007-07-06 03:35:00 | The pain might not be over yet as the article does mention the possibility of console price cuts at the up and coming gamers convention by PSIII so it will be interesting to see what if any affect that has on the Xbox 360 sales and revenue margins. | winmacguy (3367) | |
2007-07-06 04:25:00 | Microsoft are not learning to make hardware. They specify what they want hardware to do and get the lowest bidder to make it. The lowest bidder wants to make a profit. Quality can suffer. Apple plan to make a profit on the hardware they sell, so have to keep the percentage of faults low. Microsoft plan to make their money off the software, especially game software. Obviously they got their hardware buyin costs (and quality) too low.

2007-07-06 04:53:00 | Actually Microsoft pretty much followed the hardware design path that Apple uses with the Xbox360 in that they set up an in house hardware design team that also worked with the games and software interface design team although it is true about MS hoping to make more money on the games. I don't think I would be wanting to cough up on the repair bill though.

2007-07-06 05:04:00 | I noticed on The Sopranos last night tha Tony mentions getting his kid an Xbox. I thought it a bit weird as I think Playstation first when it comes to gaming consoles. I wonder how much M$ paid for the "product placement"? | JackStraw (6573) | |
2007-07-06 08:42:00 | MS is a software company gradually learning about hardware. But the original Xbox never had problems as big as this, It looks like they're getting worse, rather than learning... the x360 seems to follow suit with Vista for being worse than its predecessors (re: windows ME II)
