| 565755 | 2007-07-04 11:19:00 | We have MySky and tonight noticed two new options on it. This is the first new options I've seen since first getting it 18 months ago so is kind of significant. New feature #1: A new "On Demand" feature which will apparently allow you to pay and play right away movies and "events" that have previously been cached on the drive. Feature there now but no content until 7 July. Old news about this here; www.stuff.co.nz New feature described on Sky site here; www.skytv.co.nz I think this could be significant ... especially for video rental stores! Also movies bought this way "On Demand" would be superior quality to ones downloaded via BitTorrent "On Demand" A bit of a concern is the mention of "... Twelve to 15 movies a day will be automatically downloaded to a partitioned section of the hard disc ...". We're always struggling with the limited space as it is. New feature #2: On your recorded program list called "Planner" is the option now to sort previously recorded programs alphabetically instead of by date recorded. :groan: How naff is that? There are several new features I would like to see in MySky and that would not be in the top 20. Just feels annoying that resource was wasted on this new feature that could have been put into something really useful. (Like being able to record some shows at lower quality or being able to tag or group recorded programs) Guess I'll have to wait until the new HD MySky boxes with more space come out next year (also looking forward to HD content ... so I can convince my wife we need an HD TV ) |

| 565756 | 2007-07-04 21:01:00 | I have so far refused to take on one of these things due to the monopolistic nature of Sky and MySky cost. Foxtel in Oz that rents the same box has free installation and $15 / month if your not on their plantinum plan which equates here to basic package , sports and movies.. Wonder how much the "Installation" cost of their HD capable box will be?? I notice in the US cable and satelite providers can no longer lock customers into proprietry setop boxes and PVR. You just buy the PVR of your choice and add the pay TV companies cable card to it. Even the new HD TVs now have to have a cable card ready tuner.. |
