565123 2007-07-02 12:33:00 Universal Music Group (UMG) has dealt a serious blow to Apple's music ambitions by refusing to renew its contract with the iTunes Store.

The New York Times reports that the decision not to continue the annual contract was made by UMG executives last week.

It appears likely that Universal's repertory will disappear from the online store, unless the two parties can reach a new agreement. Embarrassingly for Apple, the removal of its catalogue will mean the loss of Apple poster child U2.

565127 2007-07-02 21:30:00 What do you mean . . . "Criminals"

Ken

The price they insist on charging for music, just before they gripe about pirates that download songs off limewire .

565128 2007-07-02 21:36:00 Perhaps another word or phrase would be better. "Rip off merchants" maybe?

I am sure I would be offended by someone calling me a "Criminal" when it is really all to do with commercial decisions - which it is what it is.

They can be offended all they want, they are the ones complaining about loss of revenue and declining music sales because people don't want to and don't have to pay the high prices for CDs any more. I think their actual issue relates more to the cut that they get from tracks sold on iTunes, they still carry an outdated mode of thinking.

I don't want to offend you but theyre just as bad by doing that as the people who go and rip off senior citizens by overcharging them for some roofing or painting that never gets done? Thats just my view???
