The fact that it is a software problem, also means that it's probably running 98, which is fine if you can support it yourself, but the average person can't, and if they could they wouldn't be needing your services.:2cents: Why should parts die? I have plenty of friends and relatives with PCs as old if not older that are happily working. So long as they are good quality they shouldn't just die. Regardless whether or not they can "support" it, she had "viruses". My guess would be all sorts of malware lurking in it. Still no reason to tell her to throw it away. Just fixed a malware problem this morning on a 5 year old PC. Which apart from that is humming along nicely and has decent parts in it. Should I have told him to throw it out and buy a new one then? |

If the computer is in a really bad state, it may cost more than the computer is worth to fix it, but it will cost a lot less than a newer computer. Clive wilson probably would have tried to sell her a brand new Vista machine, and I hate to think what that would do to someone who has spent a long time learning Windows 98. |

All I was saying is that the computer is probably getting a bit long in the tooth and might have been the reason the computer shop said time for a new one(what ever there motives are) There does come a time when a product has past it's serviceable lifespan. yes I know you like buying cheap cars, all a bit of false economy if you ask me. If MS won't support ME, how are you meant for your client to do it, without bringing it in to you for a regular "tune up". It would seem the shop is looking after there best interests by selling a new pc. And you looking after yours by making sure he/she will have to come back too you. A bit of 6 of 1, half dozen of the other. |
