| 752281 | 2009-03-01 02:15:00 | Nope, not working like that with my folders and when I right click the task bar having opened some folders, Im certainly not getting VIEW side by side option. Ive just tried it all on my wifes laptop different brand and running Vista Business and stiil cant get it to happen with Folders. Heres what Im doing: Double click on COMPUTER Double click on C drive which presumably opens up what is Windows Explorer In the Navigation Pane Click on folder A and its contents get shown in the right hand pane. Click on folder B and its contents get shown in the right hand pane. In the Navigation Pane Click on Folder C etc Right click Task bar, various Show Windows... options are available Choose one zilch as far as folders cascading or anything else is concerned. In HELP in Win Ex there is a section entitled Change Folder Views and Behaviour. It states: Open every new folder in its own folder window. This can be convenient if you want to keep all the folders you are working with on the screen at the same time. Click the General tab, and then click Open each folder in its own window. (To make each new folder replace the previous folder window, click Open each folder in the same window.) So, according to that, it should be happening like I want it to. Ive got to sign off for the moment cos weve got an appointment somewhere else. Any more help and advice greatly appreciated thanks |

| 752282 | 2009-03-01 02:26:00 | You can just hold shift when double clicking a folder, so it doesn't open in a new windows everytime unless you need it... | Blam (54) | ||

| 752285 | 2009-03-01 03:32:00 | but how do I do that with three open folders, each containing, say, Word files, so I can drag and drop between all three? Word has an option to show all windows in the taskbar. In my version of Word (2002) it is found in Tools > View > put tick alongside "Windows in Taskbar". I think Excel has the same or similar. |

| 752287 | 2009-03-01 21:17:00 | You're not going to believe this!! Apparently there's a bug! One bloke had it working like Blam6 described, FOLDERS opening in separate windows, and then for no apparent reason it started acting like mine, one folder window replacing the previous one (mine's never worked). Thw work around is to Right click on a folder, choose the Open option and then repeat the process as many times as necessary. If one of you Gurus wants to find the fix and let me know I'd be grateful (maybe its in a Vista automatic update from the past that I haven't installed, or a registry key needs tweaking), otherwise I'll settle for what I've got. Any comments? Thanks to all who have contributed. |
