Seagate has steadily whittled down the number of models affected, and recommends ONLY flashing those that are definitely in the affected group.

Flashing non-affected models is more risky than leaving them as they originally were.

The have had a form up for a few weeks where you enter your drives serial number, and they tell you whether it is affected or not.

Based on model numbers, I originally believed I had two drives that were at risk, but based on the serial number checking, they are both in the clear.

It may be that the original knee-jerk reaction to the problem might ultimately create more headaches for them than the original problem itself if people cripple their drives by flashing them all.

Just noticed the other day... 2TB drives now available, but not at a very good $/GB ratio yet.
