| 752491 | 2009-03-01 17:22:00 | A friend gave me a computer that I diagnoised as just needing a power supply , so I replaced it and got the computer working . My Dell Demension 4600 had crashed so I had a spare power supply and got the Systemax working and all . The Systemax only came with 256 DDR memory so I beefed it up to 2 Gigs and it doesnt seem to have made any difference in the speed of that Systemax computer . Is this a less powerful style computer as my Dell Penium 4 or is it supposed to be a better computer ? I'm really puzzled that the systemax is still so slow operating with 2 Gigs of ram . I am trying to have one computer to game on and the other just to use for internet researching . I am not extremely knowleged in desktop computers and am trying to learn as much as I can . I am currently building a dual core computer to game on but was just curious about that Systemax computer . Thanks for any advise ! |

| 752493 | 2009-03-01 17:57:00 | Does it show as having 2Gb in system properties? Or is it only recognising 256? Yes , it shows to have the 2 Gigs . I know that on my dell penium 4 computer, when I installed the 2 gig maximum ram in it .... it made all the difference in the world of how quick it was to respond . I dont know what type system this Systemax computer is , I know that it is about 4 or 5 years old and the motherboard and processor is made totally different than my dell pentium 4 . I dont have a spare monitor to hook it up to the systemax to explore it right now , was just wondering what type computer it was and whether it was even worth messing with . |

Have you scanned it for viruses / malware? It has a Freshly installed (by me) Windows XP SP3 fully updated . It operates by IDE instead of by Sata Hard drive like my Penium 4 Dell , maybe that is the difference I am detecting . I no longer have my monitor hooked up to the Systemax computer and do not want to ruin the contacts of my new monitor by continuing to plug it up and unplug it . I was simply hoping someone familiar with these computers could educate me on there behavoir or whether they were even worth spending my money or my time on . There are No Malware or Spyware nor any viruses on my system . It is Fresh but in my opinion ... a very poor performer ! |

Looks like there's a VX2, B531U, S925, VX5, VX6, C2D, DH531 Maybe the hdd needs replacing It maybe 5400 rpm or something . Instead of 7200 Did you install ALL of the drivers, inc the chipset drivers?? This maybe their site (http://www . systemaxpc . com/) |

This maybe their site (http://www . systemaxpc . com/) Yes , it has a label down in the lower back of the tower but it has been scuffed with whatever so much , it is no longer readable . I had run across a thread somewhere on one of these forums that lead me to a page that had all the drivers I'd need but it has been so long ago that I have no clue as to where that information is anymore . I had remembered one of these forum sites had me download a program "Look into my computer" (believe was the name ) and it told me everything about what was in this systemax system but again that information is not at hand anymore . I had gotten my Dell back going and have been using it for my internet research havent a clue as to where all that information was put (stored) . When my friend gave me the systemax system I was trying to get it all cleaned up and dependable because my Dell was down and was going to be awhile before I had it back going . Again , was just curious whether this old systemax was worth even trying to fix up as a back up computer incase my dell bit the dust again . |
