752145 2009-02-28 09:34:00 I have a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 and Intellipoint 6.3.

The software allows me to reconfigure the scroll wheel press function, and the function of the side button, and allows me to enable/disable side scrolling by toggling the scroll wheel left and right, but it doesn't allow me to reassign the side scroll to another function. I'd like it to be forward and back on my browser as my high res screen never needs side scroll, and I have the side button assigned to open a new browser tab.

Anyone know if there is anyway to change the behaviour in the registry - must be able to change it somehow?!

Thanks.

752146 2009-02-28 09:59:00 Have figured out the following:

Custom button assignments are found at:

HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\IntelliPoint\ EventMapping\ for system-wide customisations

and
HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\IntelliPoint\ AppSpecific\firefox.exe\EventMapping\ for firefox specific customisations.

Within each reg path when a custom assignment is created there is a new registry folder created for each button reassigned as follows:

HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\IntelliPoint\ EventMapping\0 - Left button
HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\IntelliPoint\ EventMapping\2 - Right button
HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\IntelliPoint\ EventMapping\4 - middle button
HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\IntelliPoint\ EventMapping\8 - side button.

Within each folder is a default key and a DWORD value callled Settings that corresponds to the custom action. There may also be a String value called Macro that refers to a custom key press combo.

Horizontal Scrolling is enabled/disabled by altering the HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\IntelliPoint\ Scrolling\EnableHorizontal DWORD value to 0 or 1.

I have tried assigning custom keys to folders numbered 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 with no luck.

Any ideas?

752147 2009-02-28 10:24:00 OK, I've also found the mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.numlines, and mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.sysnumlines fields in firefox's about:config page.

Anyone know if my answer maybe hidden here?

752148 2009-02-28 10:31:00 OK I figured it out.

Set Horizontal scrolling to disabled in Intellipoint.

Setup macros in intellipoint for new tab and close tab for side button and middle button.

Set about:config>mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action = 2 in firefox.

Done!

752149 2009-02-28 10:32:00 You could've just installed IntelliPoint... :) jwil1 (65)

752152 2009-02-28 10:35:00 update. You must also set:

mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.numlines = -1
mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.sysnumlines = false

or else left = forward and right = back

752153 2009-02-28 10:46:00 FINALLY - I've found it actually works better to leave HZ scrolling enabled and on the slowest setting in Intellipoint as otherwise I found I was sometimes going forward ro back more than one page. echothreezero (6612)
