751837 2009-02-27 07:25:00 Hey guys, thank god im not the only one with this problem , it at least lets me know its normal when installing a new CPU. i recently installed a AMD dual core athlon 64 x2 processor and my computer runs great! but now i have booting up issues . everything turns on but my computer will not boot to windows and will just sit there on the motherboard startup screen and i have even got a Blue screen. the only way to fix is to reboot and it then proceeds to windows after a few attempts. does anyone know if i may have to install a fresh copy of my vista with my cpu becuase i installed CPU well after i built my desktop? any ideas? jaguirrepaw20 (14660)
751838 2009-02-27 07:40:00 Have you tried flashing the bios/updating it to the latest version? Blam (54)
751839 2009-02-27 10:29:00 So does the blue screen give you a stop error and if so what.

The computer runs great when you can get it to boot.

Have you checked device manager?

I would not flash the BIOS unless you need to for support for the new CPU. Or for bigger hard drive.

What motherboard do have and what CPU is inserted?

751842 2009-02-28 12:26:00 I had a Socket A board which accepted my Athlon XP 2600+ upgrade OK but sometimes would make 3 beeps at startup and not POST.

I kept trying different RAM sticks until I finally looked at the CPU support list and found out I needed to update the BIOS. After that it worked perfectly.

Biostar is not particularly helpful, their support list shows CPUs but not which BIOS revisions support which ones... They just say make sure to have the latest BIOS:
