2009-03-02 19:40:00 | I have a bit of a problem on my network. All computers connect through the router to the net and thats always worked flawlessly but I set up file sharing from the "main" machine to get some stuff to the others and I have run into problems. The main is a Vista sp1 machine and can see the secondary desktop with no problem can also transfer to this desktop. The secondary can see the main but asks for a password to log in, and will not accept the login password, even with the password removed this machine will not log in. It can see the transfers from the main machine without a problem. XP SP3 The laptop does not see the workgroup at all and the names are the same. XP sp2 wireless connection. Any ideas? Also I need a wireless desktop (keyboard mouse combo) need it to be fairly slim-line but not flimsy rubbish. Good battery life is a must. Any recommendations?

2009-03-02 20:45:00 | Wanuitech/or some one had a pdf that explained how to get vista and xp to play nicely with each other, so just wait for that pdf:thumbs: As for the wireless kb/mouse, I recommend the Logitech Wave, if you have the money, very comfortable and good battery life. | 752761 | 2009-03-02 20:52:00 | I'm using this (edencomputers.co.nz) Havent replaced the batteries in the kb yet (only got it in January) The mouse runs out faster, than the kb. I've put rechargeable batteries in both tho, to save me buying them all the time This is good enough for me. Just plug the receiver in a USB port, and connect

2009-03-02 21:26:00 | Not too good with networking, but is simple file sharing ticked in folder options? And file sharing is on in Network and Sharing Center? Also, read this:www.howtogeek.com And have you added admin permisions for the folder you're sharing?: 1. Right-click the folder you want to share, select 'Properties', and select the 'Sharing' tab. 2. Click the 'Advanced Sharing' button. 3. Select the 'Share' check box. 4. Click permissions to adjust the permissions. 5. Select OK. This brings you back to Sharing Properties. In the drop down menu, select 'Everyone', and then click 'Add'. In the box, select the level of access for other users. Then click 'Share'

2009-03-02 21:27:00 | Depends how often you use it, could last 3 to 6 mths (so the shop said) But the mouse will probably run out faster than the kb. Just buy recharegable batteries for both

Just uploaded to a file sharing site , save a file --- Direct download link (dl1u.savefile.com) for the PDF I made up - thats why its a little rough around the edges. Must get onto my own server --- one day plan :) The secondary can see the main but asks for a password to log in, and will not accept the login password, even with the password removed this machine will not log in. It can see the transfers from the main machine without a problem. XP SP3 Make sure pass word protected sharing is off - Click the start orb, type in network, select network and Sharing center from the results - turn off Password protected sharing ( picture attached as links to Image F1 appear to be down) You then wont be asked for a password to get into the shared folders. |

2009-03-03 05:52:00 | Great about the Sharing --- OK laptop - What security do you have ( and If you say Norton I Quit) :p OK seriously - just been working on network last few days - all had Norton 360 - all set correctly to share - :groan: NOTHING worked - removed the software - wweeeeee away it all went. Sometimes on wireless with XP esp , the LAN PC's can take 5 minutes to show in My Network Places. See if they work OK via an Ethernet connection ( wired to the laptop> Router) Make sure what ever security you have - the firewall is set to allow the full range through from the router Eg: 192.168.1 to 192.168.255 ( if thats your IP range) IF it works on wired - turn off ALL security on the wireless, see if it will connect and work Ok with NO security - sometimes if the security is to high devices/laptops/PC's will connect but thats all. IF it works with no security, enable at the lowest setting it will go, retry, keep going up in security until it turns turtle - then go back 1 setting.
