752636 2009-03-02 02:22:00 One of my computers with xp pro sp3 refuses to hide the desktop shortcuts. The 'hide shortcuts' field has vanished from the right click menu.

I know that there is a registry tweak to switch off the icons, I have used it before, but have forgotten what it was.

The system is working well in all other respects, just that it makes a mess of my background picture.

Any help will be appreciated.

752637 2009-03-02 02:47:00 Have you tried, Display Properties; Desktop; Customise Desktop?

752638 2009-03-02 03:07:00 The 'hide shortcuts' field has vanished from the right click menu.

I'm not familiar with the 'hide shortcuts' field.
Is this you short hand for right-clicking the desktop, selecting "Arrange Icons By" and then disabling "Show Desktop Icons"?

752640 2009-03-02 04:36:00 Click Start>Run>GPEDIT.MSC
Navigate to this path:

User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Desktop>Active Desktop

Double-click Prohibit Changes and set it to Not Configured
Double-click Disable Active Desktop and set it to Not Configured

If that still doesn't work, try going cmd>sfc /scannow
