567117 2007-07-09 01:23:00 We have a client who wants an overseas domain (a country specific one)

We have tried http://www.godaddy.com, but they don’t do the country we are after.

What other overseas domain name registers do PressF1 members use to get .com etc…?

Thanks :)

567121 2007-07-09 13:01:00 with .au domain names you must have a registered AU company which has something to do with the domain name you are registering and so no generic domain names can be got.

Most places can register them. Orcon, Domainz, Freeparking etc..

yeath, that’s the problem this client does not have AU company, & I am trying to find a way to get around it ;)

Last year I could have got a .au via godaddy.com (with out needing a AU company), but they have removed .au’s :(

That is probably why they removed them as Australian domains can only be owned by australians and godaddy wouldn't like that, being out to get all they can. There is no way around this, if a non australia buys one, and the registrar can taken the domain off the owner if they can't prove that they are an australian company or person . They do spot checks from time to time too. I think nz domains should be like this too, as a lot of nz domains are owned by overseas speculators.

You don't have to be based in Australia to register a .au domain name, but you are required to have an ABN (Australian business number).
