| 567941 | 2007-07-11 10:43:00 | Does anyone in their right mind think that a Trade deal with China will benefit NZ? I predict that any increase in our exports to them will be more than matched by the reverse flow. Ergo, an even bigger trade deficit. Martynz |

They copy everything, and put non-tarrif barriers in place, and their goverment/officials can do or make anything they want. Say No to a trade deal with China. Regards Digby |

They don't invent their own products, they just copy all the brand names, produce an almost identical but vastly inferior item and flog it off as the real thing. On the Airline program last week the Aussies were destroying tonnes of fake goods that travellers had brought into the country, eg "Gucci" handbags, fancy "expensive" golf clubs, etc etc. People actually think they are buying the real thing rather than inferior copies. :( |

Regards Digby When you buy anything from a company (even a NZ company) that makes stuff in china, you are actually making things more expensive for yourself in the future, and are also causing damage to the world. This is because supporting chinas economy is making china richer, and they are then putting more demand on the worlds resources, which in turn makes them more expensive for all. Not t mention china is the worlds leading polluter, due to making all the rubbish, using unsustainable energy such as coal powerplants. The solution is to avoid chona all together, and keep them in the third world, which will also bring down the worlds carbon footprint. Unfortionately people don't look into the future, which is why there are major problems looming. Global warming, rising sea levels, more extreme weather, higher fuel prices, higher natural resource prices etc. |

| 567946 | 2007-07-14 03:15:00 | robbyp, you are right, of course, but try preaching that to the general population who like getting goods at cheap prices. Never mind that a good deal of what they buy from that country is utter crap. | FoxyMX (5) | ||
| 567947 | 2007-07-14 03:26:00 | "keep them in the third world"? It was only about 150 years ago that Great Britain and the USA went to war against China to enforce their "free trade" . They had a lot of opium to sell . Let's see them try to keep China in the third world now . The US is the largest debtor nation in the world . Much of the money is lent from China . A "free trade agreement" with the US would be a disaster for NZ . We'll get a better deal from China . ;) People seem to like cheap computers, television sets, clothing, power tools, etc . US, English, NZ, manufacturers get such things made in whatever country is cheapest at the time . One enterprising NZ "manufacturer" created local employment by getting people to cut off "made in China" tags from clothing and sewing on "Made in NZ" ones . If you don't like these things happening, you can thank the "marketeers" . |

But I hate to admit that some quality are pretty crap it is normally up to the company to resolve this issue, yeah sometimes a defective product. Can I still get quality computer parts by Western Made? |
