567699 2007-07-11 00:36:00 It wouldnt bother me if the power went off cause we have a log burner and you can also cook on it.You north islanders need to harden up a bit and experience a real winter like what we get here not a tiny bit of wind and rain you get up there once in a while toughen up north islanders it will all blow over and wash away soon enough. 567700 2007-07-11 01:46:00 Maybe us south islanders should cut the cable and let them drift away.

Physics would suggest that it would be the lower island that would drift away to become part of the antarctic republic if any cables were cut. That and the magnetic properties of the south pole would mean southerners would enjoy extra long dark winters and roast penguin will become the national dish.

567702 2007-07-11 01:50:00 We had a storm last night  , damn!!! ..... didn't even know about it until I saw it on herald.co.nz, I was standing on my balcony last night and having a smoke and wondering about the strong winds we were having. Took me 5 mins to light my cigarette.. hehe Maybe I need to get out of the house more often... :D ronyville (10611)
567703 2007-07-11 05:37:00 Just outside of Kaeo, Tauranga Bay. Still no power, might have temp power tonight but will be cut off again tomorrow. Flood water ran into the sea here cutting out sand banks. Several slips, minor flooding of utilities, fridges are on pallets etc.

Wind is still whipping around and the surf is heavy. Just thankful that our Motorhome weighs over 6 tons so is reasonably stable.

There are about 22 vans here but most of us have enough battery power or at least generators so we are OK. Drinking water is short but most have enough food.
The roads are closed so can't move out even if we wanted to. :)

I finally got Vodafone access half an hour ago after trying all day so can get messages out and get online at last.

Keep dry out there..... :)

567705 2007-07-11 07:12:00 Hehe, I had my citizenship ceremony yesterday and I was getting all these texts from my friends moaning about how bored they were w/o power:D

But even in that hall we could hear the wind howling outside and the roads afterwards had so many fallen branches and some trees without the streetlights was very tricky to say the least.

567706 2007-07-11 07:43:00 beeswax34, congratulations on becoming an official NZer, here is some advice which an old NZer gave to me when I arrived here, I asked him what do NZers expect of each other:

"Do what you say you are going to do"

567708 2007-07-11 09:05:00 Bugger you, Hitech. This little pissy, totally inconsequential North Island storm has ripped the roof off my house and I have pretty much lost everything. Kudos on being a wise ass. Catweazle (2535)
