| 567931 | 2007-07-11 00:15:00 | What more information does our silly government need to stop importing food from China ! Last week it was their seafood. Today they have just EXECUTED an official in charge of food safety for non- performance and taking bribes which resulted in the poor public relations of Chinese food worldwide ! (we should do this to some of our government and officials) But seriously why bother with a free trade agreement with China ? They sell seafood to us Garlic to Thailand (putting all Thai farmers out of business) Tomatoes to Italy ! ! ! Toothpaste to the world ! China has such a vast area and low cost structure that they can make or grow anything they want to or decide to. At least we need country of origin on all of our food ! And if any shop or official wrongly labels carrots from New Zealand when in fact they are from China he should be executed. Regards Digby |

I see many foods labelled "Manufactured from imported and local ingredients" without stating which country the "imported" ingredients are from . The Greens were proposing to bring in better labelling but as far as I know it hasn't happened yet . I'm really looking forward to the day when it is required . |

[/QUOTE] Budget brand canned apricots are from China, so I looked for NZ ones, and found Roxdale are still around, but are the dearest of the lot . Can we guarantee that NZ fruit has lower pesticide etc residue than Chinese? |
