754682 2009-03-08 06:13:00 Bit of a weird problem. My Inbox now only shows emails up until May 2008.

I ran Spybot, Windows Advanced System Care, and CC Cleaner last night but they have never touched emails before.

Ran Superantispyware and it found one trojan to my surprise. However I could have sworn the emails were fine when I logged off.

I've just sent myself a test email, hear it come in - "boink" but it doesn't show up anywhere.

View is set to Show All Messages.

Any thoughts?

754684 2009-03-08 06:29:00 I think it is Outlook Express based on the title. Sweep (90)

Thanks Blam but I'm a bit nervous about doing that. Before posting this thread I googled the problem and some discussions warn not to compact email which is what MS says to do. Rather leave it in its current state.

What I've tried is setting up a second Identity in Outlook Express. Some success because the imported mail now ends in September 08 instead of May 08. So I'm reasonably hopeful all the mail is still in Inbox but hidden.

Still receiving new mail cos the "boink" sounds but the mail doesn't appear.

754687 2009-03-08 21:01:00 Backup your OE database files, easist to just zip the whole folder.
You can find these here: www.microsoft.com

I would then try to import OE into Thunderbird: www.mozillamessaging.com

See what happens.

Chances are that you can read your latest email "boink!" via your browser, log in and get it as webmail - xtra etc, doesn't have to be a gmail account.

Opps didn't read it correctly late at night - looks like the PF1 clocks way out again.:o

Regarding the lost new mail - send a test email to your self.

Call it Test - then when it comes in, do a search for the new mail and select all folders, and then see where it was put.

Yeeeesss good idea but only when mail is left on the server. Virtually all of my mail both business and private is deleted from the servers once downloaded. Business mail will appear on another pc so thats ok but I get plenty at my personal address too. Will change the settings on webmail for the interim.

Hmmm looks like Orcon free Webmail doesn't have the save on server option.

Right now I'm trying to copy the OE stuff to a CD but keep getting "D:\ Is not accessible" message. But the same blank CD is happily accepted if I tell it to copy music from WMP. Go figure!! :illogical

Leaving mesages on the server is a function of your email client, should be in the account options.

You dont have to copy to CD, just make a backup into My Documents, before you do too much mucking around with the dbx files.
