753579 2009-03-05 04:33:00 Hi. Have a problem with kids who I can't train to mute or lower the volume of the machine to 'nil' when they shutdown the desktop. So when One of us older types comes to power up (perhaps) in the middle of the night, we're (and the rest of the house) are blasted with that confounded Log On Tune. Is there a way to mute it automatically, before it is 'run', on startup, no matter what volume it was at on shutdown? Cheers. A Team (13613)
753580 2009-03-05 04:50:00 You can disable it via Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Sounds. Find the entry called Windows Logon and change it to 'none' via the drop box. stormdragon (6013)

Or, you could just remove the xp startup sound

Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Sounds tab>Then select Windows Startup/Logon sound, and select "none" for the sound.
