569719 2007-07-17 10:58:00 Hi Team

Amongst other activities I maintain and calibrate electronic equipment in factories and had some fairly bland generic labels supplied to me to record calibration results and dates etc. I have just run out (bad planning) and need to have some new labels printed in a hurry with my company logo etc.

I have found a couple of contenders in the Yellow Pages but I'd be interested in any recommendations. They can be anywhere in NZ so long as they accept my draft images by email, and what company doesn't these days. Quantities are not great, probably 250 of each type, or maybe 500 if there is a good price-break so they have to be into short runs and economic pricing.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

569720 2007-07-17 11:13:00 no one does economic short runs. a lot of outfits will cost you setup fees regardless of length of run.

if nothing special needed (waterproof?) then why not do them yourself. label packs are easy enough to buy at local stationary shops.

Doing them yourself, won't have a professional look.
Billy, might I suggest going to a digital printer. A traditional label printer probably wouldn't be interested.
PM me the specs and i will have a ask tomorrow to see who might be able to help

569722 2007-07-17 23:20:00 I need to print on a 6cm wide x 8cm high medium-gloss label. I might try printing them myself as the content is not complex, just a logo, coy name, phone no, email address and 7-8 lines of calibration info & dates. I have a colour laser so I should be able to produce reasonably good quality results. Hopefully Avery Labels have a suitably sized blank available.

Unfortunately MS Publisher's label maker doesn't have a suitable template to rework so I'm currently looking for alternative software, preferably free.

Cheers

You might have problems with gloss with a laser printer

569724 2007-07-18 02:41:00 Have you tried contacting Adhesives as they do a lot of labels although I am not sure how cheap they would be.
PS sometimes you just have to pay the going rate if your wanting to get a decent professional job done.

569725 2007-07-18 06:16:00 You might have problems with gloss with a laser printer Avery do a glossy label for colour lasers so I assume they have any issues covered.

I downloaded Avery's free label-creation software today and although bloated, it looks promising apart from one major concern: With just a few (and irrelevant) exceptions, their label numbers do not coincide with those attributed to Avery in Word, Publisher or the Office Products Depot's catalogue so go figure! I ended up selecting by sample.

Watch this space.........
