569589 2007-07-17 03:49:00 I have been watching the parliamentary question time in the new format TV setup that the politicians fear so much.

To my mind, they need not have any fear of the TV cameras making them look silly. They manage that quite well on their own. No assistance necessary!!!

You are so right ;) I have always said that voting for them only encourages them.

569594 2007-07-17 11:39:00 Just saw it on 3 news tonight. If they take away the sleeping politicians and the 2 fingered salutes then what is the point of watching them? winmacguy (3367)
569595 2007-07-17 23:20:00 They say that one gets the Government and the politicians one deserves - but what in the hell have the people of New Zealand done to deserve the bunch that they have got.
I don't believe either of the two major parties are really representative of the views of the people who elected the sitting members, and certainly both of them have unpublished agendas that if they were common knowledge would discourage people voting for them.
The minor parties by and large appear to represent the fringes of political society, I will refrain from calling them the lunatic fringe because there are many good well intentioned New Zealanders that support them.
Can we really say that NZ has had good strong honest government in recent years, representative of the will and aspirations of the majority of New Zealanders? the answer is probably not.
Is it likely to change? - No not while there is an electoral system that favours politicians rather than empowering voters, and not while the majority of New Zealanders are politically apathetic, and not prepared to push for a truly representative parliament that actually reflects the wishes and opinions of the majority of New Zealanders.
I somehow think hell will freeze over first.

569596 2007-07-18 01:51:00 If you are home today and have Sky TV, take a look at these cretins on channel 90 at 2pm. It is an education of the worst sort!

The first thing they should do is to sack the speaker and put someone in that position who has the respect of the parliamentarians. They treat her as a joke - quite deserved I feel.

KenESmith, don't worry about upsetting the people who voted in the "Lunatic fringe" When you look at people like Sue Bradford, she probably only had a handfull of votes and had to get there by the list route.
