569532 2007-07-17 00:53:00 Hi. I'm thinking about buying a game console for my daughter (yeah right!). The problem is, I'm not certain which one I should buy. Money is not an issue so I don't need to go for the cheapest. Having said that, I'm very tempted by the Wii console. I like the interactivity of some of the games that don't involve just sitting on your backside. What do you think? Sony, XBox, Wii??? k8smum (6062)
569533 2007-07-17 01:02:00 I think you will find plenty of biased views in here, so let all the points sink in before you make a decision.

Personally, I can vouch for the Wii as a fun console. It is not, however, next generation and does not offer any playback of HD-DVD or Blu-Ray media. If these aren't important to you I would go with the Wii.

It might help to know your daughter's age as well, and what kind of games you would want to play.

569534 2007-07-17 01:06:00 If money isn't a problem, I personally would go with the PS3, the only problem there being the lack of titles for it. If you go with a wii, make sure you replace the wrist straps with something a bit more solid!!!

The Xbox360 has a few issues....overheating being one. I wouldn't recommend getting one at this point in time. As Jen said though, lots of biased opinions. Good luck.

Jen? Jen??!

Either open your eyes a bit more or give your specs a bit of a clean.

569537 2007-07-17 02:12:00 Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 are targeted toward traditional gamers who tend to mid 20's and male thus you may not find a large selection of games that appeal to your daughter.

The Wii is targeted at less traditional gamers and thus the game selection show this, also Nintendo wont allow games with R16 and R18 ratings to be release on their consoles(this may appeal as a mother).

If I were you I'd base my choice on game selection i.e games that your daughters likes and games that your happy with her playing. Theres no point owning the flashiest console and have no games you wont to play on it :)

As a gamer if i had to buy a console tomorrow I would buy an Xbox 360 as I'm yet to see any game on the PS3 I'd want to play that are only available on PS3. The Xbox has had some overheating issues but these have been over dramatized on the internet.

569538 2007-07-17 02:12:00 I would definitely go for a XBOX 360 based on the fact that there are good games available for it, more and more exclusives to come (Halo3!!!), the Media Center controls are very good, XBOX Live is fantastic to play on and has lots of good players to compete with and is cheaper than the PS3 though not the Wii.

I agree with Pete, the overheating and disc-scratching issues have been pounced on by PS3 owners who don't like the fact that they paid so much just for a Blu-Ray Player and not much else.

569539 2007-07-17 03:08:00 My daughter is nearly six but is really smart. Kiddie computer games are too easy for her - she prefers to play mahjong or texas holdem! Does anyone know if the Wii takes MagicGate cards (same as we use in our Sony A100). The reason I ask is that pretty much every time I join an on-line auction for these things there's someone trying to buy one for use with their Playstation. Cheers. k8smum (6062)

magic gate is a sony thing

see wikipedias entry (en.wikipedia.org)

but can work with other readers but the security part doesn't work (i think) although i don't know about the Wii,

569541 2007-07-17 04:28:00 Doesn't look like the Wii does. It would be a bit like the PS3 supporting the Wii Nunchuk:D beeswax34 (63)
