568717 2007-07-13 10:09:00 A friend recently purchased some return tickets to Aus for near the end of the year, however something has come up and she now wont be able to go.

TradeMe seems to only do Concert tickets..

Where would be the best place to sell the tickets? She says that she's unable to return / cancel them...

Cheers

568718 2007-07-13 10:19:00 You can't sell airline tickets as they have been booked for a specific name.
Tickets are non refundable and not transferable to another person.

My olds seemed to think that you could, less a $40-odd processing fee?

I believe she was flying Pacific Blue?

568720 2007-07-13 11:11:00 Yea Safari is right.

Now if they had insurance they may be able to claim the cost back...but it may not be worth it as ticket prices to aus are pretty cheap aren't they?

$500 return at the moment. But as far as I am aware you can only change the ticket to someone else if the ticket was for national travel only. International is impossible.

568722 2007-07-13 22:38:00 It's hard to believe that the tickets are non-refundable (less a cancellation fee). Who told you they weren't refundable? A travel agent? Or the airline? Greg (193)

It's in the airlines' Terms and Conditions.

5. The Booking and the benefit of the contract for carriage are not transferable by the Guest. The Carrier reserves the right to refuse a person carriage unless satisfactory proof of identity (eg. passport, current drivers licence) and, in the case of minors, satisfactory proof of age (eg birth certificate), is produced at check in. Infants not requiring their own seat may be refused carriage or required to purchase a seat if satisfactory proof of age (under 2 years) is not provided.

As mentioned in another post passengers can take out insurance to obtain refund in the event that they are not able to take the journey (subject to conditions) or, depending on which ticket plan they have chosen (ie, a more expensive option), they can change the dates of travel. The cheapest tickets don't offer this option without a penalty fee being charged.

If I were she I'd just scream my head off to the company until they gave a refund . It works .

Bah! I obviously wasn't fully awake this morning, or should take up drinking coffee .

Instead of It's hard to believe that the tickets are non-refundable I thought your post read It's hard to believe that the tickets are non-transferrable .

But yeah, as I said before, it depends on what class of fare you have chosen . The cheapest options are usually non-refundable and unable to be changed to different dates . It is quite clearly stated when purchasing tickets what your options are and that insurance is recommended .
