569839 2007-07-19 06:25:00 Mac PEBKAC can usually be solved by educating the user  PCs on the other hand which I would assume is what the person threw out the window.....  Quite common.:D

you sure it's pebkac? it seems to be your answer for everyone who dislike the mac interface

Just because someone doesn't like the Mac UI, doesn't mean that the UI doesn't work, it just means they may be slower compared to someone who enjoys working on a Mac and is very fast and capable as a result.
I have seen both examples in action from Windows orientated users trying to use a OS X to speedy design/production Mac users whose career and pay packet depends on their knowledge of the platform. (most Mac users also tend to be Windows capable), fortunately I am also proficient on both platforms but prefer OS X.

Don't forget that a computer is just an electronic input device for instructions - get the instructions wrong and the result you get is based on human error.

569841 2007-07-19 07:03:00 no, i mean that whenever someone says they dislike the interface, for whatever reason, you blame pebak as if it's something they're doing wrong; it is possible to use something properly and still dislike it motorbyclist (188)
569842 2007-07-19 07:46:00 True, although the emphasis of the comment was on disliking the Mac GUI and the comment was from a person with more Windows experience (aka Windows mindset) thus the reason for my pebkac comment. Sometimes it takes a change of mindset from the Windows way of thinking to the Mac way of thinking - the two are somewhat different - to appreciate using OS X and within that it is understanding the little things that makes a difference.
Sometimes old habits die hard or don't die at all.

569843 2007-07-19 07:59:00 total BS, i could say the exact thing back at you to prove my own point!

you were assuming that said user spent less than 5 minutes on the machine, and that they weren't even trying.

it's like how my brother likes naked touring bikes and i prefer full fairing sport bikes. we've both ridden various example of both types and have both come to seperate conclusions. it's not necessarlily always pebkac and/or us being stubborn bastards - it's personal preference

and ***? isn't it PEBUAK - Problem Exists Between User And Keyboard? or do you mean to say the problem is between apple keyboard and computer ;)?

569844 2007-07-19 08:40:00 In the case of ronyville's comment, I am assuming that he may have spent longer than "5 minutes" with a MAC although I wouldn't always say that that qualified a PC admin as a capable Mac user compared to someone whose career revolved around being productive on a Mac.
It could be either PEBUAK or PEBKAC as they both amount to the same thing - the user, as they are the one who sits between the keyboard and chair/ or on the chair as the case may be.

I think the argument about bike preferences is a slightly different one since there are more brands of bikes available than there are main stream Operating Systems.

Yup, I do spent more than 5 mins dealing with MACs at work. And I have used MACs do to some work and really enjoyed it. And I do know my way around MACs. So no PEBKAC here! Its just that I find intergrating MACs in a windows networking environment a bit of a pain in the butt at times. And my first comment was in regards as to what I would prefer to throw out the window or use a baseball bat on if given a choice. :D

i wasn't talking brand, i was talking styling/stance - and only two of them:rolleyes:

569848 2007-07-19 19:32:00 And when I was four a six-year-old "friend" pushed me out of the window of their two-storey house. Since their house also had a basement and was on a hill it was effectively the same distance as a three-storey drop. "Friend's" mother was a nurse and couldn't believe that I not only survived the fall but didn't even break anything. :waughh:

I don't think it did my brain any good though. :(Being a nurse she should have also know that a small kids bones will seldom break (their bones have a similar reslience to a green stick). However, how you never sustained internal injuries or broke your neck was probably the miracle
