What do you guys think?

thre's nothing to say your ram, hdd nor cpu are going to be flawless either. is there even any evidence of video cards being more prone to failure than a motherboard?

that said, you could buy a few of all your parts and sell the extras on trademe to cover the cost of your own bits:2cents:

569949 2007-07-19 11:55:00 On further inspection, once you add on GST, Newegg prices are about the same as here even with this fantastic exchange rate (sorry exporters :D) george12 (7)
569950 2007-07-19 12:36:00 what's the story with gst when you buy from overseas anyway? i always assumed if you were buying an item from the states it was tax free, but now i think about there's no way we'd get off that easily  motorbyclist (188)

Well, no not flawless, however less to go wrong with them. A viideo card is made up of hundred of components which run almost at max with lots of stress. I had known plenty of RMA video cards, especially in the last 3 years. RAM,HDD & CPU are pretty much enclosed components. I have yet to rec a dud cpu or RAM modules.

Under $400 you dont pay GST!

569953 2007-07-19 21:21:00 I'm considering it carefully. There are decent savings to be made, certainly. With a lot of products it might be possible to do an RMA directly to the manufacturer here in NZ (via their NZ service agent, which I think most manufacteres have).

Even if it isn't possible, it may be worth buying overseas.

Were you thinking of buying from the US or Australia, or the asian countries that the parts are made in?

I was thinking newegg

569954 2007-07-20 04:11:00 If you're not paying GST, buying from newegg is a good deal. But if I did it, I would be importing too much stuff to get away with not paying GST, and most things end up the same price as local pricespy-leading stores. george12 (7)
569955 2007-07-22 21:54:00 The bad news is Newegg doesnt frieght outside the US.....

The GOOD news is Q6600 in NZ has dropped from $923 to $423.....say hello to my next cpu.......whaaaaaa!
