569543 2007-07-17 06:59:00 The Xbox has had some overheating issues but these have been over dramatized on the internet.

lol tell that to the ppl with dead xboxes

that said MS has increased it's warranty period from 1 to 3 years so it isn't too much an issue.

more worryingly, if MS detects you've modded your xbox in any way (even to quieten the damn thing) they'll ban your machine from playing online and tell you to buy a new one. this would be fine, and stop cheating/piracy, but MS has been falsely identifying 'legal' machines and leaving their owners with one option; to buy a new console:yuck:

569544 2007-07-17 08:30:00 There are recourses if something like that happens. You can contact MS if your XBOX has been unjustifiably shutdown. If your referring to that journalist who had this problem and wrote a blog about it, he was probably the most vile and uncouth journalist I have ever had to read work of.

Most XBOX's are fine and don't suffer from overheating problems. If you mod to cheat on Live then you deserve to get banned.

569545 2007-07-17 08:34:00 If I had a 6 year old daughter, I'd get her a Wii rather than an Xbox or PS3.
Why? Because they are fun, simple and interactive which is what kids like.:)

569546 2007-07-17 08:35:00 So you like the Wii huh.
Therefore you buy her a Playstation.
Then she can use her magiwhatevers.

Then you go buy yourself a Wii.

Since I haven't read any reports about 20 year old male gamers buying the Wii and bearing in mind that the Wii is outselling the Xbox 360 and the PS3 by about a factor of 7-1, I would say that a lot of women and kids (families) are getting the Wii.
Just my :2cents:

569548 2007-07-17 14:55:00 Yup, good on Nintendo to get a whole other segment of the population interested and raise the profile of gaming and the consoles and allow others to experience it without feeling lost or a total noob.

A fantastic risk that paid off:D:thumbs:

569549 2007-07-18 05:02:00 the 18-21 year olds i know that bought wiis use them only at parties (or any other time they run out of xbox controllers)

and now i think about it, girls (of all ages) love singstar on ps2, so if want to do it on the cheap (with literally thousands of titles available too) get her a ps2 singstar pack and maybe that rock star thing too?

really, beyond wii sports (and of that only tennis and boxing) the wii isn't that great; even zelda was a letdown imo.

and from my experience the wii has been built for people with granny-like reflexes, so things like boxing just get frustrating as your movements aren't translated into the game as they're too fast, and many things get a better result from wrist movement rather than arm movement which basically makes things counter intuitive in a competitive situation when you want an edge. so in short i dislike the wii largely due to it's lack of power and the weak controls, but i'm 18 and male and a gamer.

that cheaters do, but from other reports i hear MS is hardly forgiving once they've decided you're a cheat - which is typical of MS:annoyed:

and that said, what if your mod was an extra heatsink? or quieter fans? hardly cheating/pirating

569551 2007-07-18 06:30:00 I think that the banning is only for software mods otherwise the XBOX's that MS itself is fixing by adding another heatsink etc would get banned too. beeswax34 (63)
