753748 2009-03-05 20:17:00 I have downloaded and saved XP SP3 and saved it but see in various forums that users have problems when it is installed. What experience of SP3 have F1 Helpers had? Krad (7878)
753749 2009-03-05 20:19:00 Depends if your system is one thats affected, especially if its an HP.

Or if its an AMD system

Whats the specs of the system? Did you buy it or build it?

I've slipstreamed SP3 on a cd. Never had a prob with it

753751 2009-03-05 20:39:00 Just to be safe-if you can, make an image of the disk or back up the data.

Sometimes system restore doesn't work

Other than that, SP3 is all OK:thumbs:

753752 2009-03-05 21:18:00 Installed it on both my home PCs (AMD processors as well) without any issues at all.
I have installed it on a couple of PCs at work as well - AMD and Intel processors and it wasnt an issue.

There was an issue early on about it not working properly on AMD processors - Seems they patched SP3 to solve this now.

753753 2009-03-05 23:40:00 The problem with AMD and SP3 is not AMD.

The actual problem is with Compaq/HP that have AMD CPU's.

What happened was Compaq used the same image to load XP on all PC's both Intel and AMD, the Intels work fine, but when SP3 installs on a AMD PC - the Reg /software is saying the CPU is Intel - thats when it turns over and dies.

The patch you download from HP BEFORE you install SP3, basically removes the intel identifier from the reg and now it reads as AMD as it should.

MS did warn HP about this - its NOT MS's fault its HP's.

753754 2009-03-06 04:10:00 I installed SP3 on my AMD based custom built system and it was baaad. I reinstalled XP and left SP3 out, and the problems were not there any more. The three main probs were - Taking ages for the shutdown window to open(about a minute), modem not connecting, and sleep not working. I'm not sure what the advantages of SP3 are, but those disadvantages overrule any advantages for me. I'm sticking with SP2. sammo450 (13626)
753755 2009-03-06 04:19:00 It could be the way you set it up . It may have been an option in the BIOS .

It could be the drivers

753756 2009-03-06 04:58:00 My PC's are working fine without installing SP3. As long as they are then they stay that way.

I object to MS, or any company forcing stuff on me. Adobe Updater is a more annhoying one than MS's. Looking through a lot of updates they are totally irrelevant to me and thus not installed. ie. Time update for Finland, and many others like it.

I just use Autopatcher and install what I want installed.

753757 2009-03-06 05:59:00 I guess backup your files or do a hdd image file with a freebie software or with Norton Ghose or True Image. Give the SP a try. I have found with a system that the network didn't work via a crossover cable anymore but it did before, now I need to connect via wireless or via a LAN router. Nomad (952)
