571371 2007-07-22 04:04:00 Hey guys,

Am thinking of getting either Sky or Freeview, but the problem is, there is about 3 or 4 tvs that would need to get it throughout the house.

From what I know, with Sky, you need to pay $40 per extra TV per month. Which adds up to be a lot of $$$

Is there anyway to use 1 Sky decoder box and have those video transmitter things? Like you use to be able play a video on one tv, and transmit it to another, would that work? Is there a cheap way for sky to be on 4 tvs?

Also, what about Freeview? How does that work with multiple tvs?

Thanks.

EDIT: ah crap, this should prolly be in the other forum (never go there), move if you want mods :)

571372 2007-07-22 04:10:00 Those video senders should work with a movie/dvd or sky.

Just as long as the video sender has video and audio, cant see why it wont work.

Your TV would also have to have the inputs obviously.

Just plug one into the main TV/dvd (and audio).

Some of them u just tune the tv into the signal.

And you may have to get the transmitter for the main TV and a separate receiver for each of the other TV's.

571373 2007-07-22 04:11:00 Should work? Can anyone confirm it?

But also, can it only be viewed what is being viewed on the main tv? Or can you switch channels etc via the sender? If that makes sense.

571374 2007-07-22 04:14:00 I know I had one it worked .

The only thing is, u cant watch more than 1 sky channel obviously .

1 channel u all watch the same channel .

The transmitter only transmits the signal/audio .

It doesnt change the channel . Thats what the remote for the main TV is for .

571375 2007-07-22 04:16:00 That's what I thought...which would kinda defeat the purpose which is everyone kinda fights over the channel on the main tv (we used to have sky) so I guess there is no cheap way around it? --Wolf-- (128)

Nope not unless Sky wanna be kind and give it for free.

571377 2007-07-22 04:18:00 I don't see that happening.

Does Freeview work the same way, or can one box be wired to all tvs?

571378 2007-07-22 04:26:00 Freeview is the same proposition as Sky.... same set-up with a 'receiver' box and you would have the same wireless signal transmitter to each TV... only able to view one channel at a time.

I imagine that you could have a splitter from the Sky dish cable (I'm talking about Freeview here) to each TV and purchase a Freeview box for each (they aren't expensive- $100+- on Trade Me) so each user could change channel. There could be problems with the signal from the dish degrading if it's split into four though.

Dont know havent got Freeview. If its got video / audio sockets u can do the same as if it was Sky.

But its most probably the same as in watching 1 channel for all.

Unless someone's planning on buying a few TVs that use PIP / dual tuners or something. So, u can watch 2 channels at the same time.

571380 2007-07-22 04:42:00 Yes, One freeview box can be wired to all the TV's but you would still have to watch the same channel on every TV.

Defeats your purpose.
You would have to buy a STB for each TV, with Freeview thats a one off cost. unlike Sky

You can also pay abit more and get a sender that will allow you to change the channel of the sky from bedroom, but it would change the channel on every TV.
Again this doesn't help you, They are great though.

So there's no way round it other than additional Sky Decoders, same goes for Freeview.

Please also note you can not run Freeview & Sky off the same satalite dish until 1st of August when Sky switch it’s service over to horizontal polarity.
